Treat Bed Bugs

Are You Safe From The Bed Bug Bites?

Archive for the ‘kill bed bugs’ Category

I have bed bugs for quite some time in my house. I tried to kill them by buying a chemical spray myself but it did not work. I called a specialized company to do the treatment. However the chemicals they use are very strong and much stronger than the chemicals that we can find in a store. This was the only solution I had as I have suffured a long time but I am very worried that the chemicals are very toxic for my health. Please, somebody who had a professional treatment, can you let me know if indeed I am in danger?

The chemicals they use are indeed toxic, but no less toxic than say the ones you can buy at the store in a can if used properly. When i had my hotel treated, we of course, made everyone check out for 2 days. As long as you cannot smell the chemicals, it is ok.

These chemicals that are being applied, must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration of whatever country you are in, presuming you don't live in Uganda or someplace like that. I live in a developing country, and for LEGAL authorized application of these chemicals, the ones they use must be approved by the FDA and if they are cancer causing agents or can cause harm to humans, they people performing the application MUST tell you specific guidelines for how the house should be handled after application.

I have used Maxxthor, Pyrethene, and some really long word that begins with an "S'… they smelled quite strong, but after one day i was able to reside in the hotel (as a test subject) and for all the chemicals other than Pyrethene, i was able to reside in the hotel just a few hours later. This is probably due to the fact that the chemical itself is mixed, normallly, with 80-90% water.

I suppose you may be ultra-sensitive to chemicals, but the person applying them has a Material Safety Data Sheet for each chemical they are applying, which will contain the information you need regarding how long it takes for the area to be safe.

One thing you should be sure of (completely unrelated to the odors) is that you get a guarantee, because i naively assumed that the exterminator knew what he was doing, the chemicals didn't work, and i simply threw away money. Get the guarantee.

Hope this helps, even though it was quite long!

Hello,

I want to spray my luggage bags before I move them out a place I am staying which has evidence of bed bugs.

I doubt that they are in my luggage as I have not been there for long, but I don't want to risk transporting them 'just in case' a few have jumped on board.

Standard fly/wasp spray does not kill bed bugs.

Can anyone please help?

Thank you

you could go to home depot go to the section where the sprays are and rat poisen or Kmart Anywhere I guess!

I threw away so many things from my apartment (old clothes, sheets, etc.) they just keep coming back. I steam vaccuumed the carpet atleast 4 times, i sprayed bug spray all over and still i saw one today.

Bed bugs are challenging pests to control. They hide in many tiny places, so inspections and treatments must be very thorough. In most cases, it will be prudent to enlist the services of a professional pest control firm. Experienced companies know where to look for bed bugs, and have an assortment of management tools at their disposal. Owners and occupants will need to assist the professional in important ways. Affording access for inspection and treatment is essential, and excess clutter should be removed. In some cases, infested mattresses and box springs will need to be discarded. Since bed bugs can disperse throughout a building, it also may be necessary to inspect adjoining rooms and apartments.

Good luck!

Hi, Recently I have discovered myself getting biten by some kind of insect while I was sleeping since about the beginning of this year. The biten place became red, and it itchs and kind of hurts like a flea bite, however, there is no animals in my house. I accuse it was bed bugs because I mostly discovered the itchy-ness after I woke up.
I caught a flea ONCE in my dining room, which was the ONLY time that my other family member got biten. Other than that, none of my other family members got biten so I accuse it is in my room, so I don't know if that was related to this.
I tried to change my bed sheet, and bug-sprayed my whole room. The biting disappeared for a month or two and it begin all again. It already re-happen 3 times and now I am afraid to sleep in my room.
What bug could be biting me, and how in the world am I going to kill these darn bugs for good?
Oh and, all the rooms in my house have carpet installed except the dining room and the kitchen
if it is laundry detergent, wouldn't I got it all over my body? These itchy-pains are mainly on my legs and ankle. there was only one time that went on my body.
Plus, what would it look like if it was the laundry detergent?
Actually now that I think about it, I am NOT SURE if it is bug bites or not. I have NEVER caught any blood-sucking bugs in my room.
but after I sprayed my room I did stop getting red itchy and pain lumps for a while until it all start again
I tried Bug Fogger as well among with bug spray

We have to narrow it down to something in your mattress since that was when you had the problem. And after changing the sheets and shooting bug spray, the itching disappeared. Plus no one else is getting the bites.

1. Is your mattress a used one or a re manufactured mattress?
2. Did you have someone else sleep in your bed prior to you having the problem?
3. It may be dust mites which are very small and really cannot be seen very easily. They feed off your dead skin.
4. It may be bed bugs which are larger and their bite is more severe.

Either way, you need to get rid of the mattress, have someone come in and professionally spray your room or take action with a bed cover for dust mites or a bed encasement for bed bugs.

The best route is to call an exterminator (but it seems like you already did this). Unfortunately it may take multiple trips for the problem to be eradicated. Even then, you have to be diligent. Be sure that the exterminator knows where to look for bed bugs.

If cost is an issue, there are home methods that work, but you MUST be vigilant, as it may take some time.

#1) Clean, clean, clean. Wash EVERYTHING with hot water. Steam clean the carpet. Steam clean the seams of your mattress. Look around your clock radio. They like to hide in cracks. Look along the baseboards of the room.

#2) Buy some type of insecticide and follow the directions completely. Repeat as needed.

#3) Clean again!

You can do this on your own, but be prepared for a battle that may last a few weeks.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment and I will do my best to answer. I work for a large health department and help/educate people with/about this problem almost every week.

How do you kill them or where can you by the products to do so

The only way to get rid of bedbugs is to have a licensed exterminator come in and fumigate. Good luck!

Bed Bugs (Good Night)?

Has anyone used the product by Spray Away called Good Night to kill bed bugs, I've called an exterminator however the treatment didn't work completely so they're coming out again, in the meantime is there a product to kill these lil m-fers!

Are they bed bugs or dust mites? If you have bed bugs you will need to take your mattress, wrap it in plastic (front/back) like a present and put it in the sun.. That will kill the bed bugs.. I would go to the store or look online for a plastic/rubber mattress cover to surround your mattress and leave it permanetly on.. You can then cover that with a nice waterproof cover that is machine washable. While the mattresses are outside give your room a through cleaning and wipe down your floor boards with cleaner and vacuum your carpeting really well at least once a week. When you unwrap your mattress sprinkle with baking soda and let that sit and vacuum that up as well. It will freshen your mattress and smother the bed bugs… I vacuum my mattress when I change my bedding once a week… Good night sleep tight and well you know the rest !!!
