Treat Bed Bugs

Are You Safe From The Bed Bug Bites?

Archive for September 8th, 2008

I didn't even think these bugs existed in the US!

I just moved into an apartment complex, and the place had little bugs crawling around. I asked my landlord to spray, and he did. But I've done some research now, and I know they are bed bugs and they need special treatment.

Is there anything I can buy to kill them and stop them from coming back? They must be in my neighbors' apartments too.

HELP! I can't even sleep in my own place. I've been staying at a friend's.

You call the landlord and the health dept. NOW !!

I have bed bugs for quite some time in my house. I tried to kill them by buying a chemical spray myself but it did not work. I called a specialized company to do the treatment. However the chemicals they use are very strong and much stronger than the chemicals that we can find in a store. This was the only solution I had as I have suffured a long time but I am very worried that the chemicals are very toxic for my health. Please, somebody who had a professional treatment, can you let me know if indeed I am in danger?

The chemicals they use are indeed toxic, but no less toxic than say the ones you can buy at the store in a can if used properly. When i had my hotel treated, we of course, made everyone check out for 2 days. As long as you cannot smell the chemicals, it is ok.

These chemicals that are being applied, must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration of whatever country you are in, presuming you don't live in Uganda or someplace like that. I live in a developing country, and for LEGAL authorized application of these chemicals, the ones they use must be approved by the FDA and if they are cancer causing agents or can cause harm to humans, they people performing the application MUST tell you specific guidelines for how the house should be handled after application.

I have used Maxxthor, Pyrethene, and some really long word that begins with an "S'… they smelled quite strong, but after one day i was able to reside in the hotel (as a test subject) and for all the chemicals other than Pyrethene, i was able to reside in the hotel just a few hours later. This is probably due to the fact that the chemical itself is mixed, normallly, with 80-90% water.

I suppose you may be ultra-sensitive to chemicals, but the person applying them has a Material Safety Data Sheet for each chemical they are applying, which will contain the information you need regarding how long it takes for the area to be safe.

One thing you should be sure of (completely unrelated to the odors) is that you get a guarantee, because i naively assumed that the exterminator knew what he was doing, the chemicals didn't work, and i simply threw away money. Get the guarantee.

Hope this helps, even though it was quite long!

my wife found a bedbug during a stay at a La Quinta in Aistin, TX. management agreed to reimburse for all clothing, getting hair done, and dinner. nothing in writing to guarantee reimbursement, but they assure we have a check in the mail. however this morning we went to emergency room for a couple of hundred confirmed by DR and pictures of bug. now we need to know how to pursue for medical costs, missing work and damages.

Bedbugs have not been linked to the transmission of any disease and are not regarded as a medical threat.

I would say you are wasting your time. And ours.

Also can some one suggest a natural repellent for bed bugs ?

If it is that bad, then I think you might have to buy a new bed and bedding. Next time, make sure you wash your bedding at least twice a month, (more if you can be bothered). That should keep the nasty beasts at bay!

How to tell if you have Bed Bugs?

my daughter has beg bites all over her body. At first, i thought it was a fungal infection, so i bought some OTC cream, and it seemed to work. For two days, she slept in another bed besides her own. Last night was her first night back in her bed. This morning, when she woke up, she had even more bites. I dont think it’s bed bugs, simply because we have not seen any crawling, and most puzzling, no blood spots. Does anyone know what these mystery bugs might be….and how to treat them, or even a simple way to help identify what type of bugs were dealing with?

You will be surprised, but nearly all beds have bed bugs.
Despite their name, the bugs don't just live in beds, they actually prefer places higher up, such as on the curtain tabs - which is why you do not see them during the day. They are smart little things.
However, when they detect carbon dioxide in the breath of a sleeping human, in this case your daughter, they crawl down and feed on the blood. They may also lay eggs at the sides of the mattress.

You could call a pest exterminator. They do sound like bed bugs.

Were her bites like this? :

The best way of treating them would be to call in a pest exterminator, they will usually place poison on the fabrics in your house (curtains, mattresses, settees), which aren't dangerous for humans, it will kill off any bed bugs within a few weeks.

Temporary, I suggest have your daughter sleep in another room and use the OTC cream on her bites, and tell her to not pick at the bites, they can scar really badly.

For reassurance, bed bugs can occur in very clean homes and dirty homes as well; so it is nothing to do with the amount you clean.

Edit: To the chap below, I meant dioxide, hopefully no-one has carbon monoxide in their breath! Thanks for pointing out the error.

How can you eliminate bed bugs(surot in tagalog)? The one that bites and sip blood and when you kill it with your fingers it stinks! *heh*

if you live some way that it is winter right now take off you sheet in the morning time and put them in the washer then take you mattress and box and stick them out side in the cold the colder the better, leave them out all day make sure they don't get wet. clean your room vacuum and wash everything. Bring your mattress and box back in after 5 hours or more, and hopefully there will be no more bugs left. If you find that you still have a problem then you will have to call a exterminator to come and spray your whole room. good luck

Hello,

I want to spray my luggage bags before I move them out a place I am staying which has evidence of bed bugs.

I doubt that they are in my luggage as I have not been there for long, but I don't want to risk transporting them 'just in case' a few have jumped on board.

Standard fly/wasp spray does not kill bed bugs.

Can anyone please help?

Thank you

you could go to home depot go to the section where the sprays are and rat poisen or Kmart Anywhere I guess!
