are bed bugs pink in colour too?

Sep-4-2008 By admin

Hi:
I had recently bed bug problem and managed to control them and get rid of them but sometimes i see tiny or small bed bug looking bugs that are pinkinsh in colour and one time one of them i found feeding on my foot before I killed it. My old bed bugs were the normal brownish dark red bugs as seen in pics and are uslay seen but these are pinkish in colour. So are these bed bugs too or something else? Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Bed bugs can, actually, be any type of bug in which rests in your bed! They are more commonly very hard to see with the naked eye. Basically, if your bed has any type of bug in it, it's most likely a bedbug. There are different types of bed bugs, and all have the same tendency to feast on your live and dead skin cells or suck your blood. Lovely, isn't it :-|

If it was me, I would wash the sheets at least once a week and have an exterminator come out and spray your entire house, inside and out. A worse-case scenario would mean you would have to tent your house.

The best route is to call an exterminator (but it seems like you already did this). Unfortunately it may take multiple trips for the problem to be eradicated. Even then, you have to be diligent. Be sure that the exterminator knows where to look for bed bugs.

If cost is an issue, there are home methods that work, but you MUST be vigilant, as it may take some time.

#1) Clean, clean, clean. Wash EVERYTHING with hot water. Steam clean the carpet. Steam clean the seams of your mattress. Look around your clock radio. They like to hide in cracks. Look along the baseboards of the room.

#2) Buy some type of insecticide and follow the directions completely. Repeat as needed.

#3) Clean again!

You can do this on your own, but be prepared for a battle that may last a few weeks.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment and I will do my best to answer. I work for a large health department and help/educate people with/about this problem almost every week.

I've already tried several things and failed. I washed all my blankets. Do I have to add something to the wash? Or, make sure I use hot water? I also sprinkled flea powder on the mattress and blankets, but that did not work. It's been over a year since I've had cats, so what is biting me?

I work at a group home and last month we just had a HUGE infestation of bed bugs - I'm talking in all 10 bedrooms!!!!!!! So I have some experience (unfortunately! lol). Here are the steps we took:

1) Wash all of your clothes and bedding in HOT water only. Use bleach and bleach alternative. Hot water is the only thing that will kill them. Be prepared to be cleaning out your washer and dryer after for all those dead ones.
2) Bag all nonwashables in your room. CHECK them for bugs first though!!!!!!!! If anything is badly infested, you're going to have to throw it out.
3) I highly suggest throwing away your mattress and box spring. I'd even get rid of the frame, they like hiding in that. You can keep your headboard (it can be sprayed easily).
4) You're going to have to hire a professional to come in and spray pesticides in any rooms that are infested. We had two treatments done and have not seen any since!
5) Go out and invest in waterproof mattress covers - they help ward off future bed bugs.

Did you bring home some used furniture lately? Or used clothing? Or have you traveled recently and left your suitcases on the floor at a hotel? These are the MAJOR ways that bed bugs are making a come back!!!! And remember, anyone that has bed bugs in there home and come over and sit on your furniture, could be transporting them to your place.

I feel your pain, it was a total disaster at my work. Imagine having to do every piece of laundry for 10 people!!!! It was a nightmare. But like I said, we had two treatments and have not seen a single bug since. And we also put those covers on everyone's bed.

Good luck!

My one roommate definitely has evidence of bed bugs in his room and has since gotten rid of his mattress and box spring. My question is how easily can the move to other rooms of the house? And if I have not noticed any evidence of them in my room, is there chances that they are still there? The rooms are about 20 feet apart separated by a large open area with clothes closets in between.

Get a pest control company. Bed bugs can live for a year without eating, will move around the house on clothes, backpacks, or the like. Just getting rid of a mattress and box spring won’t do the trick.
